Getting to Whistler

Whether you plan to fly into Vancouver, or drive from Seattle or elsewhere, these instructions should help you get to Whistler easily. 

By Car

 

TRANS CANADA HWY West/PROVINCIAL ROUTE 1 West

Take the HWY-99 North exit toward SQUAMISH/WHISTLER

Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto SEA TO SKY HWY North/PROVINCIAL

ROUTE 99 North

End at Whistler BC

Driving From Seattle

Allow 4 to 5 hours

1) Travel North on Interstate 5 or I-5 from Seattle. It is about 176km or 100 miles to the U.S.-

Canada Douglas Border Crossing also known as the Peach Arch. When nearing the border,

tune-in to 1130AM All News Radio for border crossing reports. This station will provide

updates/waiting times at the 2 boarder crossings The Peace Arch Crossing and The Truck

Border Crossing. The Truck Crossing is generally quicker but not very scenic. The Peace Arch

is longer, goes through Downtown Vancouver and is more scenic.

Quick Route – Truck Crossing – Avoids Vancouver

 

2) Take Exit 275, off of I-5, before getting to the main border (Peach Arch) crossing.

3) Follow the Pacific Highway (176th Street) past Surrey and over the Cloverdale Bypass to

Hwy #1.

4) Take the exit for Highway #1 West, and follow it over the Port-Mann Bridge then over the

Second Narrows Bridge, through North & West Vancouver and then to Horseshoe Bay.

5) When you near Horseshoe Bay, you will see exit signs for Whistler (Highway 99 North).

6) Take Highway 99 North to Whistler (approx. 1 ½ hours).

Scenic Route – Peace Arch Crossing – Through Vancouver

2) Once you are through the border, the highway changes names to Highway 99 (North).

Continue to Vancouver.

3) Follow Highway 99 through the Massey Tunnel and then over the Oak Street Bridge.

4) Once across this bridge, turn left on 41st Street and follow it to the next major intersection,

which is Granville Street.

5) Turn Right onto Granville Street and go over the Granville Street Bridge.

 

Driving From Vancouver International Airport

Allow 2-3 hours

1) Travel EAST out of the airport on McCONACHIE WAY.

2) Follow the HIGHWAY 99 NORTH signs. You will go over the Arthur Lang Bridge and onto

GRANVILLE ST.

3) Go over the Granville Street Bridge.

4) ****Stay in the right lanes while crossing the Granville Street Bridge.

5) Follow signs for SEYMOUR ST. You will exit on the right-hand side of the bridge onto

SEYMOUR ST., just before the bridge ends.

6) Take Seymour Street until you come to Georgia Street. Turn left onto Georgia street.

7) Georgia Street will take you through Stanley Park and over the Lion's Gate Bridge.

8) Once over the bridge, take the left exit for Marine Drive West for Whistler (follow the signs to

Horseshoe Bay, Squamish, Highway 99 North).

9) Once you have made the 'circle exit' onto Marine Drive, immediately get in the right hand lane

and Take the 1st right onto Taylor Way. 

10) Ascend the hill and turn left onto Highway 1 West (follow signs for HORSEHOE BAY,

SQUAMISH, WHISTLER, HIGHWAY 99).

11) ****Follow signs for Highway 99 North to Squamish/Whistler. When you approach Horseshoe

Bay you will see the turnoff on the Right hand-side of Highway 1 at Exit #1 for 99 North to

Whistler. Take Highway 99 North to Whistler.

12) Squamish is a good spot to refuel and get some food. Dining options include Wendy's, KFC,

Tim Horton’s (Great Canadian Coffee & Donuts), and McDonald’s & Burger King. All

these are located directly off the highway.

13) Whistler is approximately 45 minutes from Squamish.

14) There is ongoing highway construction located between Squamish and Whistler and updates

on road closures is available at www.seatoskyimprovements.ca

15) As you approach Whistler you will pass through several subdivisions. The first being

FUNCTION JUNCTION. Continue STRAIGHT through the traffic lights at Function Junction

and another set of lights at Bayshores.

16) Approximately 5 km later you will come to another traffic light and the Subdivision called

WHISTLER CREEK (Creekside). Continue STRAIGHT past Whistler Creekside. You will

notice ski runs and large buildings on your right hand side. This is NOT the main village.

17) After Whistler Creek, proceed to the 3rd set of traffic lights (approx. 4 km). Turn Right onto

Lorimer Rd.

18) Go through the 1st traffic light and then the road will stop in a T-junction (3 –Way Stop).

19) IF TRAVELLING TO GLACIER LODGE – Turn Right at the intersection when Lorimer Rd.

ends. The Glacier lodge is located on the left hand side on Chateau Boulevard.

20) TRAVELLING TO ALL OTHER BENCHLAND PROPERTIES - Turn left at the intersection

when Lorimer Rd. ends.

21) Turn Right on Spearhead Drive (just after you pass the Four Seasons on the right)

22) THE ASPENS is the 1st building located on the right as you go up the hill.

23) THE GREYSTONE LODGE is the 2nd building located on the right as you go up the hill.

Located just past the Aspens.

24) THE WOODRUN LODGE is located in the same cul-de-sac as the Greystone Lodge.

25) The entrance for THE MARQUISE is located on the left hand side of the road, opposite the

entrance to the Greystone Lodge.

DIRECTIONS FROM WHISTLER TO VANCOUVER (YVR)

 

1) Head South on Hwy 99

2) Take Exit 13 (Taylor Way)

3) Turn right at first set of lights onto Taylor Way

4) Turn left at the lights at the bottom of the hill onto Marine Drive East

5) Turn right onto Lions Gate Bridge

6) Follow through to Georgia St.

7) Get in Right Lane once you pass Thurlow (Do not Turn Here)

8) Turn Right on Howe St. (this will merge onto Granville)

9) Go over the Granville Street Bridge

10) Follow Granville until the exit for the Airport called McCONACHIE WAY
